Happy Wednesday everyone! I wasn’t sure if people liked sneaking a peek at what I’m reading this week, but I’ll keep soldiering on because I like it. That’s pretty much all that matters when it comes to a blog, right?
This week’s read isn’t technically a read, but it’s in book format and so I thought it’d be fun to highlight.
The first fantasy series I finished this year! It’s November already, so I’m not doing well but I’m happy to have read it and definitely want to chat about my overall feelings on the entire series.
This week randomly became a tough week after Vulture posted this article about taking pictures of open books. It criticizes the bookstagram community as well as readers who love to get creative with their books. You’re more than welcome to read it here.
Then pause a take a breath. It’s finally Friday.
The winter months feel less exciting because there’s not too many books coming out. While they are small, they are definitely mighty. Check out these great reads coming out November 2018! Is it weird that most of this is fantasy? Nope.
A friend of mine online recently took some polls on which fantasy series her followers have read. If you’re reading fantasy, you know there are way too many series to keep up with. There’s practically a series for every conceivable version of the fantasy genre which makes for a lot of reading.
While I was watching her rattle off the names of some of these series, I started to wonder which ones of these books have I actually read or started to read?
Winter is the last book of The Lunar Chronicle series. As I was approaching, my dear friend Renee at @somekindoflibrary mentioned reading Fairest before Winter.
Well, I read the book and I actually don’t feel any more empathy towards Queen Levana. In truth, I hate her more.

I know that Mondays are always a pretty annoying day of the week. However, it may make it a little bit enjoyable knowing that I’ve reviewed some books. Right?!
If you know what I’ve read on bookstagram, then you must know there are reviews for these books waiting on Goodreads to review.
Here’s what I’ve read recently and reviewed up on Goodreads:
This is the story of a young guy named Joe who obsessively starts stalking a woman named Beck. He believes that they would be a beautiful couple together, but Beck doesn’t know it yet. And Joe does everything in his power to make sure that their relationship is perfect and flawless and unforced. Sadly, everything is forced for Joe as he stalks her, hacks her email, imitates her friends online, and even kills people.
I wasn’t that impressed by this book. However, it wasn’t terrible. I actually did read the entire book at the end, so that has to count for something. But there were a few themes that I didn’t like and skewed my thoughts on this book. Check them out.
Misery is actually the name of a character written by Paul Sheldon, one of the main characters of this book. He was kidnapped by Annie Wilkes, a huge fan of Paul Sheldon’s who happened to find him passed out in his car. When Annie takes him home, she decides that he needs to right some wrongs in his writing and forces him to write a new book starring the lovely Misery.
I don’t think I could have been freaked out enough with my first Stephen King novel. Seriously, I read this book in a day and had my face in a pillow for most of it. I had to even take a walk around the block afterward just to clear my head of the kind of person Annie Wilkes turned out to be. Shuttering.
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
This is a collaborative book written by two authors about the apocalypse. It follows Aziraphale and Crowly (an angel and a demon respectfully) who are trying to keep the end of days from happening because they’ve become accustomed to life on Earth.
The book is really interesting and I can’t wait to see how this plays out on the TV show. I loved how all the details of the book kind of come together at the end. The first half is to introduce all the characters and what they will be doing and the other half is the actual end of time. However, the writing was a little bit extra. Granted I don’t think this will be an issue on the show (since most of what was described can be very masterly done on screen), but in terms of a book it wasn’t jiving with me.
Happy Friday, everyone! We’re finally at the end of the week and Halloween is just around the corner. For me, Halloween isn’t a big deal. I don’t like dressing up and going to parties. I like staying home and getting in on that 50% off candy the next day.
However, I do like celebrating the occasion with some Halloween-y treats, some not-so-scary Halloween movies, and of course a few reads. While I won’t be reading these books during the Halloween weekend, I’m going to include my all-time favorite horror reads. They’re pretty old, but I like to go old school every once in a while.

Over the weekend, I took the time to read two different thrillers; Misery by Stephen King and You by Caroline Kepnes. Both are supposed to be super suspenseful and great reads.
I did have a great time reading both of these books, but what I found interesting is that both thrillers included characters blaming others for their actions. Commonly known as “victim-blaming,” this is where the victim is blamed for everything that happened to them. You see this sometimes with rape cases where the girl was wearing “too short” of a skirt or “asking for it.”
