Hello everyone!
I’m sorry for the absence these past couple of weeks. TBH, it feels like I’ve been absent in more ways than one the whole summer. There’s been so much going on in the real world that the Internet world needed a step back. All that being said, I’m finally back to the swing of things and I can’t wait to share with you what’s been going on.
Well, there isn’t much to tell. I think many of you already know, but my husband and I moved across the country to Los Angeles.
For the next part of this blog post, I’m going to tell you everything that happened in a timeline.
August 24, 2018

This story begins at near the end of August. After months of searching and traveling across the country, we finally found a place we loved. Now, it was time to get all our stuff to this wonderful place. We packed our bags and shipped everything off. We drove out to my parents place to stay a few nights.
Most of this time was spent just hanging out and eventually having dinner with my parents and sister before moving from the only city I’ve ever lived in.

After spending a day at my parents house, getting our bearings, we were off on a road trip down to Florida. My husband and I have done this road trip dozens of times, so it wasn’t a big deal for us. It would also be one of the last road trips we would have down this coast. It made me a bit sad knowing that we wouldn’t get to look out to that horizon and watch the climate change on our way along the East Coast.
I know we’ll have adventures like this on the West Coast, but this is a memorable landscape and nostalgia kept its grip on me until we reached St. Petersburg.

After spending a full week with my husband’s family, it was finally time for us to journey on an airplane to our new home. I was so excited at this point because I’ve been receiving daily updates on our stuff. At this point, it looked like we would make it to our new place in time to receive our stuff. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
The icing on the cake for this trip was sitting in first class. My husband found a great deal while booking these tickets and we decided that we’d treat ourselves to a one-way ticket to our new home. We drank champagne, luxuriated in the extra leg room, and ate a whole meal! Seriously, it was the most relaxing trip I’ve ever taken on a plane. If only it was worth the cost of a ticket.

Today we finally received our furniture. As you can tell, there’s a huge block of time missing between the optimistic Simone who went to California thinking all of her stuff would get there with her and the person that she is today. Let’s just say that time wasn’t on our side.
When we first arrived in LA, we decided to stay a night in a hotel. We weren’t going to get the keys until the next morning and it’s always better to have everything set up for you right after stepping off a plane. We took all of our stuff to our new digs the next morning, but we hadn’t heard from the moving company on the status of our stuff.
It turned out that they wouldn’t be able to deliver it for seven days. I was so livid. I couldn’t believe that we had to sleep and live in our brand new apartment without any furniture or comforts or even a new change of clothes. We slept on an air mattress for the week and my mother-in-law was coming into town. I couldn’t believe that she had to sleep on an air mattress for a few nights as well.
But come Tuesday morning, we were well underway. Our boxes and furniture arrived and in pretty decent shape. We only suffered a few casualty from the move, which made me happy. The next few days would be dedicated to unpacking and making this house a home.

It’s finally Friday and I’m finally feeling like I can get back to work. The past few days were dedicated to straight unpacking. I did nothing else the past few days and with the help of my mother-in-law (my husband was already starting his new job), we were able to set up chairs to sit on and the kitchen. I’ve already cooked a few nights in the new kitchen.
So that was my journey. Two and a half weeks (20 days), bad back pain, and no reading and I’m finally settled in my new room with my desk. We’re still unpacking some boxes, but it definitely is starting to feel like home.
I’ll be back on the blogging daily routine now! Hope you enjoy all that’s about to come!
I’m so happy to hear that you’ve arrived safely in your new home! I hope you’re enjoying yourselves 🙂
