My Most Anticipated Reads – October 2018

My Most Anticipated Reads – October 2018

I didn’t think the fall would be a huge time for new reads, but it’s turning out to be a better month than the entire year. Here’s what’s publishing this month that I’m super excited about.

Of course there are some books that I’m more excited about than others. The list is pretty long this month in comparison to other months, so I’ll put a little star next to those titles. For now, get ready to get your wallet out. Here comes the books!

My Most Anticipated Reads of September 2018

My Most Anticipated Reads of September 2018

New month and new reads! I hope it includes some of these titles because I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever for these to be published.

I’m most definitely excited for Whiskey in a Cup by Reese Witherspoon. Like everyone else, I’m a huge fan of Reese and probably seen every movie she’s ever been in. And being an advocate for books always wins points with me.

I’m also excited about Wildcard, the second book from Marie Lu’s successful Warcross series. If you’re looking for a science fiction novel written by a woman, definitely check this one out.

And finally, the best book I can’t wait for this month is Hank Green’s An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. I’m such a huge fan of both Hank and John Green and I can’t wait to read his work!

What are you excited about this month?

My Most Anticipated Reads of August 2018

My Most Anticipated Reads of August 2018

August always feels like that throwaway month. It’s the month before school starts and as much fun as you’re having, there’s that little thing egging at you that summer is almost over. I hate that feeling and I’m an adult!

But I’m going to be honest, I’ve got a lot going on this month. I have a big move and packing and for some reason all the books I’ve collected feel like they’re closing in on me. It’s getting kind of claustrophobic in here.

So I might not be picking up any books this month from publishers. However, this month has got some treats for you if you’re interested! Definitely check these books out coming out in August.

My Most Anticipated Reads for July 2018

My Most Anticipated Reads for July 2018

Summer seems to be a slower time for books. There’s still many coming out, but less so than the winter months. Perhaps it’s because book people are more winter people? Who knows.

But as the season gets warmer, here’s some fun books publishing in July that I’m excited about! Mark your calendars because even though there aren’t as many books I’m excited about, the ones on this list are going to be amazing.

As a reminder, this is just a list of all the books publishing in July that I’m excited about. I know I’m probably missing a lot here, but I wanted to highlight the ones I would read myself. Hope you enjoy!

My Thoughts and an Excerpt from Tahereh Mafi’s New Novel, A Very Large Expanse of Sea

My Thoughts and an Excerpt from Tahereh Mafi’s New Novel, A Very Large Expanse of Sea

This is a little bit different from what I normally do, but I was perusing Twitter when I saw this:

Screen Shot 2018-06-28 at 1.30.51 PM

In my head, I was hyperventilating. I had heard Tahereh Mafi was going to move away from her high fantasy books to write something that felt much more autobiographical.

I knew that it would be about being Muslim American and the months and years after 9/11.

However, I didn’t think I would get to read an excerpt from the book. I didn’t think I would read it today, a few days after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the travel ban from Muslim-oriented countries.

Here’s what the book is about

It’s 2002, a year after 9/11. It’s an extremely turbulent time politically, but especially so for someone like Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who’s tired of being stereotyped.

Shirin is never surprised by how horrible people can be. She’s tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments—even the physical violence—she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day. So she’s built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her. Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother.

But then she meets Ocean James. He’s the first person in forever who really seems to want to get to know Shirin. It terrifies her—they seem to come from two irreconcilable worlds—and Shirin has had her guard up for so long that she’s not sure she’ll ever be able to let it down.

You can pre-order this book now!

So I read the excerpt while slurping spicy noodles for lunch and right off the bat, I knew that this will be another amazing story about Muslim Americans that needs to be boosted on all social media platforms. Since this exclusive excerpt was shared on Entertainment Weekly, I’ll share the link to that article below:

Read an excerpt from Taharei Mafi’s newest book, A VERY LARGE EXPANSE OF SEA

Now, even though I’ve only read this excerpt and highly anticipating reading the rest of this novel, I do want to share some quotes and reflections that resonated with me. You can find these after the jump!
