Adult Bookstagrammers Who Read Fantasy – Part One

So recently I realized that I’m a huge fan of fantasy reads. Great! Got that out of the way.

For myself, reading fantasy is amazing. It really makes me happy to get into these tales of different places and magic. I love the feeling of entering a new world where the rules are dictated by the author and the universe they built for me. And for some authors, they’re also able to throw in a little bit of politics, a little bit of marginalized voices, and a little bit of some serious topics the world is concerned with at the time. Fantasy lends itself to be an open canvas where good can be evil, evil can be annoying, and good always prevails.

However, there was one slightly disparaging issue that I didn’t consider. I’m way too old. Well, okay, I’m in my thirties, but that still feels too old to be reading about dragons and fairies and fights for thrones. Most of the fantasy world is run by teens and young adults. I think this is great, but as an adult who enjoys fantasy I wanted to find my peoples. So I decided to put together a list of other adult bookstagrammers who read fantasy.

This list is pretty long, which is a good thing. I didn’t think so many people dabble or immerse themselves in reading fantasy, so it makes me happy to feature them below. Hope you get to check out these wonderful folks!

  1. I’m 36 years old and Fantasy is one of my absolutely favourite book genres! I tend to stay away from YA Fantasy for the most part, though, and stick to reading Adult Fantasy only.

    1. I haven’t tried adult fantasy yet! I know Brandon Sanderson is high on my list and I just got the Broken Earth series, which I think is for adults. YA Fantasy is getting kind of trope-y and for the most part, I feel like I’m trying to catch up on what I missed when I was younger.

      1. I agree, YA Fantasy has a lot of tropes in it and that’s primarily why I stay far away from it. Yesterday, I started reading AND I DARKEN and I was surprised at how good it is! Have you read it? Brandon Sanderson is okay – there are better Adult Fantasy writers out there. Patrick Rothfuss, Jacqueline Carey, and Terry Goodkind are some of my favourites (although Goodkind’s writing is a little problematic in his later works).
